Kinbrace is a small settlement (population 51 in the 2011 census) at the junction of the north–south Melvich to Helmsdale road (A897) and the westbound road to Syre (B871).

Passenger Information 

Kinbrace is a request stop with a ‘Press & Ride’ system:  a kiosk with a button for passengers to press at the platform; this will alert the driver about any waiting passengers in advance.

Transport and walking routes in the local area 

Kinbrace is 17 miles north of Helmsdale and over 400 feet higher; the single-track road which follows the Helmsdale River is almost downhill all the way.  It’s possible to hire bikes in Helmsdale, take them on the train to Kinbrace (cycle reservations may be required) and enjoy the downhill ride back.  Attempt this on a day when there is not a headwind up the strath for an easy ride! 

There is also a magnificent 50-mile ride from here to Lairg via Syre, Strath Naver and the Crask Inn.  About 9 miles out from Kinbrace, the route passes the Garvault Hotel, which claims to be the most remote in Britain.
